Foundation for your Attefall house
The foundation is your part of the project. With the quote we send a dimension sketch showing where the house bears its load and where the service pipes must come up. You or a local contractor build the foundation before delivery day. The most common choice for an 18 m² house is concrete piers or ground screws.

Three common options
| Concrete piers | Ground screws | Slab on ground | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Groundwork | Limited – a hole per pier | Minimal, no excavation | Larger excavation, drainage |
| Air under the house | Yes | Yes | No |
| Sloping plot | Works well | Works well | Needs more fill |
| Frost | Founded below frost depth or insulated | Length adapted to the soil | Insulated against frost |
| Can the house be moved later? | Yes | Yes, the screws can be pulled out | The slab stays |
| Best suited to | Most plots | Quick work, hard-to-reach plots | Special cases |
The dimension sketch
The house rests on specific support points along the long sides. The dimension sketch shows the number of support points, spacing, height and where water, drainage and electricity must come up under the house. Follow it exactly – that is what allows the house to be lowered straight down.
Frost and ground conditions
In large parts of Sweden frost goes deep. Piers must be founded so that frost does not lift them – either below the frost depth or with ground insulation. A local groundworks contractor knows what applies to the soil on your plot. Clay and fill need more than rock or moraine.
Service pipes
- Water: brought up frost-free, for example with an insulated pipe with a heating cable if the house will be used in winter.
- Drainage: with a fall to the main sewer or the private system.
- Electricity: a supply sized for heating and kitchen, installed by a registered electrical contractor.
Check before delivery
- All support points level and at the right height.
- Diagonals checked – a deviation shows immediately when the house is lowered.
- Pipes cut and protected in the right place.
- The area around the foundation clear so the house can be lowered without obstruction.
The foundation also affects height: the ridge height is measured from the average ground level, so a high foundation can push the house above 4.0 m inside a detailed plan. See the rules and delivery day.
Frequently asked questions
Who builds the foundation?
You arrange the foundation, yourself or through a local contractor, to our dimension sketch. We do not build foundations.
Which foundation is cheapest?
For a light 18 m² house, piers or ground screws are usually cheapest. Local conditions decide.
How high should the foundation be?
The height is on the dimension sketch. Remember that the foundation height counts towards the house's ridge height.
Can the foundation be built in winter?
It is harder when the ground is frozen. Plan the foundation before the frost if delivery is to take place in winter.
