Own entrance and own part of the plot

To count as a supplementary dwelling, case law says the home should have its own entrance and its own part of the plot next to it. That is more about the placement on your plot than about the house itself.

Renting out

Many people build a supplementary dwelling to rent out. Remember that the house may only contain one home and that it must complement a one- or two-family house. Tax rules for letting are available from Skatteverket (the Swedish Tax Agency).

Read about the winterised version if the house will be used all year round.
